How do I design
and build my site?
There are many ways in which you may design your site. The
first way is to use a text editor (i.e. Notepad) and use HTML
(Hyper Text Markup Language) to design your site.
The easier way however is to use a commercial site builder that
allows you do design a website with the simplicity similar to a
word processing program. We recommend Microsoft
FrontPage and Macromedia
Dreamweaver because they are easy to use and publish.

Can I use

Yes, you can use any HTML editor, web design or development
program you wish (PS: if you are going to purchase any software
of web offering, feel free to

How do
I send my web pages to my server?
After designing your website, you will need to send or upload
your pages and pictures to our servers. The ftp account
information including the ftp servername, username and password
for uploading your files are in the instructions you receive
when you signup with YOA. For detailed step-by-step instructions
on how to use an FTP program to send files, select CLICK

I
use a platform other than Windows to develop my site, does that
matter?
Generally speaking there shouldn't be any problems with you
using a different platform (Mac, Linux, etc.) to design your
site.

Do you have any
web design tips?
To create professional business websites, keep your design
simple. Here are a few tips from theMariner Enterprises team and other
members:
- Avoid flashy backgrounds, use a simple, solid backgrounds.
- Stick to a few fonts, not all browsers will have special
fonts, Try to use Arial, Verdana or Times for text.
- If you use an image editor, save photos as jpg images and
titles as gifs.
- If you use photos keep the file sizes small for fast
downloading, use a program like Smart Saver Pro!
- Write good and clear content on your site.
- Avoid use of frames since users tend to feel trapped. Use
tables instead to get a similar effect.
- Make it easy for customers to contact you. Use forms to
accept queries etc.

FTP or File Transfer Protocol is a method used
to copy files from your computer to our server. Most FTP
programs will ask for the server name, user name, and password.
What FTP program do you recommend?
For Apple Macintosh users we recommend the Fetch program.
You can download this trial program here.
For PC Users we recommend the WSftp Pro. You can download
this trial program here.
What is Flash?
Flash is a Macromedia product and it is based on vector
animation on the web. The graphics are made of lines and curves
defined by mathematical objects (called vectors). The vectors
will allow clean Movie Like animation (they are resolution
independent) and smaller file size.

Why use Flash?

Flash will help you to create animated
images for your site and to add interactivity. For example
you can make the animation stop and wait for the user to
click a button then start again with a new image (or page).

Flash will increase the site speed (if the
flash files are not too large).

Flash movies are easy to make and don't
require programming skills.

You will need to have the Flash program installed on your
computer.

How
do I create the Flash Movies?
After you have the program installed on your computer, you can
start creating your flash movie. Flash is both a drawing tool
and a movie editor. If you've used other graphics applications
like Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator, some of the tools may
look familiar. You can create most of your graphics directly in
Flash. You can also import some images from other image editors
(like bitmaps from Photoshop). When you finish designing your
Flash movie, the program will build the page and save the files
for FTP Upload to your site!

will the Flash movies will be displayed in the browser?
The flash movies will be visible through your browser where the
Flash plug-in is installed. Currently, most browsers come with
the Flash plug-in preinstalled.
